Cuffy Meigs

Cuffy Meigs, (Atlas Shrugged) Director of Unification for the Railroads, was a man about whom no one dared ask questions; used his position to rob the railroads blind. He carried a pistol and a lucky rabbit's foot, and he dressed in a military uniform. In the end, he gets in over his head with Project X and blasts the old Nat Taggert's railroad bridge across the Mississippi River, killing all his men, poor Dr. Stadler and himself in the bargain.

“Elops drear, a dumb serpent

“that gives no notice by hissing to avoid him,

“drear sad, dreadful

John Hume, commentary on Milton

“…they did not know what was safe or dangerous these days, when the guilty were not punished, but the accusers were; and, like animals, they knew that immobility was the only protection when in doubt and in danger.”

“In the long run, we’ll all be dead,”
